The Internet is having an important influence on our life today. Web sites for firm’s presentation, e-commerce, health, insurances, fashion, cosmetics, real estate, ticket reservation, and so on…

The domain name is where people can find you and it defines your online identity. Businesses register domain names with their company name and sometimes also register their products names. Individuals register their family name or names that have a special interest to them.

Domain names have two parts: the label and the extension, separated by a dot. Stability, reputation and longevity are important when choosing a domain name and extension. Today, more then 8 million companies are maintaining their sites. The most famous companies, along with many other individuals and small, medium and large business, rely on their web sites for products and services to do business online. It is obvious that the web site’s name is very important.

If the name is short and significant enough to be easy remembered and if it also sounds good, you have a significant advance compared to your competition. The domain name is always reserved form an authorized firm. Many people make the mistake to consider that the best names are already taken. This is true in many situation, but there are also firm that are renouncing or forgetting their sites names. It is always wise to verify the abandoned domain list; maybe there is the most appropriate name you are searching for.

If you must choose a new name, you must consider some factors that will help you to do the right choice. The name mustn’t be too long (long names are difficult to be correctly written in the browser’s case). The domain name must also be easy to spell, easy to pronounce.

The domain name mustn’t have numbers in it – numbers are difficult to remember. It is wise to not include numbers in the domain name too. The domain name must also be appropriate to the firm’s activity. It must suggest something about the products or services you want to sell.

The domain name must have a correct meaning in other possible language you will use in your business. You must avoid the unpleasant situations when a word can have another meaning when it is translated.

The domain name is also important for your originality; you must avoid the trade marks or name very similar to the well known trade marks.

You must also avoid the words “the” and “a”.  They are easy to forget. Avoid also the use of vowels at the end and beginning of the words used in the domain name. They don’t sound good and they are easy to be forgotten.

The use of a hyphen is sometimes a solution (to separate two words, like comfort-zone.com), sometimes it makes the domain’s name difficult to be written in the browser’s case.

There is more than 20 domain name extension to choose from. You must also prefer the .com domain name extension; it characterize the serious, long term established firms. The extension .net is used by for-profit companies (like .com). Some new extensions, like .biz or .info, are available too. A different domain name extension tells to the visitors something about the web site’s location. A .co.uk , .fr, .it or .de domain name is specific to a certain zone and gives the specificity’s guarantee to its visitors..org is often used to denote a nonprofit organization.

If you're thinking to register more domains, you have got the right idea. Registering and using multiple domains is perfect for building your business and will help you create a good online identity. When you are planning to register a new domain name, you must figure also to choose more than one domain. Using multiple domain names is great for building your business and can help you create a dynamic and efficient online identity. This also can prevent the competition to choose a domain name that attires the customers from you. And another major advantage is to provide customer more ways to find your site when searching the Internet. If you need to present multiple products or services, you can do it more efficiently using more that one website. You can also drive more visitors to your website. SEO is also recommending increasing your traffic this way. More than one web site means the possibility to create distinct marketing strategies too.
